The traffic lights in Education

Hello readers,

Today’s topic will be about a news related with my career.

This news is about the traffic lights in education was the education minister's proposal Joaquin Lavin, and emerges as a way to improve the quality because it would allow parents to know in what position, according to results of SIMCE, is the schools of her children from that.

The system is that schools with good performance in SIMCE are green, those with regular performance will be in yellow and those schools with the worst results in SIMCE have the color red.

Then parents can decide which school to place their children, according to results SIMCE supposedly would ensure the quality of education that provides that facility.

Schools that are green will have an extra incentive grant colleges in red and will struggle to get that grant, but that will have to improve their performance. In addition, schools with better results may make it difficult for students coming from other establishments and those in yellow have to open and facilitate the entry quotas.

Felipe Salazar, an expert on education policy, said that the traffic lights, "only reflect the socioeconomic composition of areas, places with fewer resources and do not reflect academic subjects."

Then, say that schools colors in yellow, have fewer resources than those in green in the same area and these results do not point to the quality of education they deliver.

For Salazar, this system leads to segregation and discrimination and nothing else, and says that "the agency can not say anything because half of students with poor performance is in the private sector and other public sector and the results show
there is no significant difference between the two groups, all due to socioeconomic status ".

In summary, the traffic lights system implemented by the minister of education Joaquin Lavin, in order to improve the quality of education, ¡IS A FAILURE!

Well here I send the link of the news and what it says Felipe Salazar, and I hope they tell me they think about this.

  1. I agree with Salazar. The system only reflects what is already known: the schools with more resources (money), always obtain better scores in tests like SIMCE or PSU. This isn't a solution, it's just a way of showing the social differences with colors.

  2. Hi Yriangel, I think the same, Simce and the test are not a good way for better education. Public policies like this, give us more and more social differences.

  3. I think that is terrible this "new politics" of the government.
So I think that we as students have an important role, because the government maintains their segregate politics...

  4. hi, well I think similar to you, the semaphores are not the answer to the problems on education, Beside, I dont trust on the SIMCE like a way to know if the education is of quality or doesn´t
